Are you still going ahead with the NY – Paris 2009 Race? I have talked before about joining the race in a hybrid from Berlin to Paris. Is this still OK? What are the dates and what is the cost. I would bring two entrants and two passengers for that last leg.

Rich, I hope you know that Luke Rizzoto has organized (loosly) a 2008 tour since the Great Race is no longer doing this. This will be from Times Square to San Fran. following as closely as posible the 1908 route. At this time he has about 15 cars. If you are interested-the only costs are your hotels, food and gas. I’m hoping the bill dies in committee and fortunately, there is no Senate version, yet, that I can tell. Regardless, we need help getting folks to call the 50 co-sponsors of this nonsense. Letters to editor would also help. This really is bad legislation as it exists today.

One correction on your numbers. A little over 4,700 pedestrians die each year. There are 25 kids killed in back-over accidents by the rear bumpers and engine running tail pipes. Only 5 blind pedestrians die each year and none has yet died from a Prius accident. The Prius has the same rate of pedestrian accidents as ordinary cars.

This is bad legislation and needs either to be fixed or die in committee. Remember, your silence is assent.
